Taunts may have lead Father to Shoot Tennis Player with Three Bullets

Gurugram: Police said they have identified the motive for the murder of tennis player Radhika Yadav, who was shot dead by her father in their Gurugram home on Thursday.

Three of the five shots fired by 49-year-old Deepak Yadav struck his 25-year-old daughter in the back as she was preparing food in the kitchen.

After suffering a shoulder injury during a match a few days ago that left her unable to perform at her best on the tennis court, the former state-level player opened a tennis academy to instruct young players.

However, according to the police, her father wanted her to close the tennis academy because he was frequently made fun of for surviving off of his daughter's earnings. According to the first information report (FIR), Deepak Yadav used to become enraged when his daughter refused to close her business.

Following an increase in taunts over the past few days, he ordered Radhika Yadav to shut down her tennis academy, a directive she rejected.

"People used to make fun of me when I went to Wazirabad village to get milk, claiming that I was dependent on my daughter's income. This bothered me. Some even questioned my daughter's character. My daughter refused to shut down her tennis academy when I told her to," Deepak Yadav told the police.

"My dignity was damaged by this circumstance, which continued to annoy me. I was under a lot of stress and distress. As a result of this tension, I pulled out my licensed revolver. I shot my daughter Radhika three times from behind, striking her waist as she was cooking in the kitchen". During questioning, Deepak Yadav declared, "I have killed my daughter."

According to the police, Manju, Deepak Yadav's wife, declined to provide a written statement. She went to her room after telling them she had a fever.

Kuldeep Yadav, Radhika Yadav's uncle and Deepak Yadav's brother, made a statement to the police and filed the FIR.

He claimed that at 10.30 am on Thursday, he heard a loud bang and hurried to his brother's flat on the first floor. In the FIR, Kuldeep Yadav stated, "I saw my niece, Radhika Yadav, lying in the kitchen and a revolver lying in the drawing room." "My son Piyush Yadav and I then went upstairs. Together, we lifted Radhika and drove her to the Asia Moringo Hospital in Sector 56, Gurugram, so she could receive treatment. The doctor pronounced my niece dead after the examination.

Kuldeep Yadav expressed his shock at his niece's murder.

He stated in the FIR, "She was a well-known tennis player with numerous accolades. Her death shocked me, and I don't understand why she was murdered. When I visited the first floor, only my sister-in-law, my brother Deepak, Manju Yadav, and Radhika were present."
